A computer malfunction wiped out a month's worth of grades at three high schools and one middle school, giving struggling students a second chance but dismaying others. The Evansville-Vanderburgh School Corp. announced on its Web site that the malfunction occurred during spring break. Students at Harrison High had mixed reactions, depending on how the second semester was going for them, senior Ibrahim Dughaish said Monday.

"Some are really upset because they worked hard for five weeks," but others saw it as a reprieve, he said. "My son is an honor roll student and I prefer him keep his grades. He works hard for them," said parent Teresa Hayes. Ipod Movies, Downoad Ipod Movies.

Apple TV moves to better movies

The latest incarnation of Apple TV, a white box the size of a hardback book that connects to your TV, is an attractive alternative to the usual ways we get our video content, even if it still has room for improvement. When it launched in March last year, Apple TV was mainly a way for users to get their iTunes content to play on the TV. You could buy movies on the computer, then transfer them to Apple TV, a slow process and hardly worth it. The movies were expensive and of poor visual quality. A few months later, Apple Inc. gave the box direct access to YouTube videos, instantly making it more entertaining. The latest software update, which arrived last week, takes Apple TV to a whole new level: It can now download rented movies directly from iTunes, with no need to involve the home computer. Videora Converter claims to convert all your videos to play on your iPod without requiring any "technical know-how" on your part. The program's process in itself is simple: search and select the desired file, click 'Convert' and there you have it, ready to play on your iPod. Despite its simplicity, Videora Converter suffers from a number of shortcomings. For one, the interface, particularly the main window, is riddled with horrible flashing pop-up ads. This makes using the wizard a fairly tedious process and one that you should skip altogether. We were also surprised by the very haphazard video settings.

For the video format, you have a choice between "old" or "new"; for the video size "ipod" or "tv", with no explanation as to what Videora considers the "tv" size to be. Setting quality levels for audio and video continues in the same foggy way: basic, medium, high or best are the only choices you're offered. The quickest way to convert is under the Current Conversion tab. This interface is probably easier to use than the wizard. Select your file, the device you wish to convert it for and the profile you want to use.

Videora has more than two-dozen preset encoded video formats to choose from. While you should find what you want in that list, it would have been good to let users tweak the settings according to their requirements. In terms of your video file library, Videora keeps your created output files in folders, divided according to the devices and video formats. You can also automatically add the converted files to iTunes. If not for the bewildering interface and extremely vague video settings, Videora Converter could actually have been a very simple iPod converter.
