Ipod Movie: Catalina evacuees find shelter Cabrillo High School
When Santa Catalina Island resident Jane Lopez was ordered to evacuate Thursday because of an approaching fire, shegrabbed money, credit cards, and medications. But on Friday afternoon - after spending an uncomfortable night at a shelter for evacuees at Cabrillo High School - Lopez is regretting not taking some extra clothes.Lopez, 59, said she remained calm during the evacuation, but other island residents were in panic mode looking at the raging fire. "You don't believe it," said Lopez, a 15-year Catalina resident who works as a restaurant hostess. "It doesn't really hit you."After the fire broke out, 138 evacuees - including 52 children and 86 adults - stayed overnight at a Cabrillo gym,
sleeping on cots, said American Red Cross shelter manager Barney Berlyn.

He's an emblem of the urban scene, part of early 21st-century reality. In a movie theatre the other night, a man sitting a few rows in front of me watched a baseball game on his telephone. Since the movie was boring, part of him went to the game, till he was informed that his little screen was creating an annoying distraction.
