Based on the bestselling novel "A Walk to Remember", by Nicholas Sparks, The Last Song is a drama based on a Seventeen year old daughter from a broken marriage that is sent to her father's house for the summer. Veronica ‘Ronnie' Miller (Miley Cyrus) life is turned upside down when her parents divorced as her father moves away from her New York surroundings. He then settles in a small town on Tybee Island in Georgia. Three years have passed as Ronnie is still very upset about the entire ending of her parents' marriage and she is hell bent to show her disgust on her latest visit to her father.
Ronnie's father is glad to try to reconnect with his daughter. A former concert pianist and teach he has been quite content on living a quiet life in his beach Town of Tybee Island. While there he has immersed himself in creating musical works of art that after some time become the centerpiece of a local churches musical performance.
The story takes on a life of its own as Ronnie's father tries to reconnect with his daughter with the only thing that they both have in common, music, but is that enough to fight through the anger and resentment that Ronnie holds for her parents.
To top things off Ronnie is also intrigued by a new guy that she meets on the island. The initial interaction between these two is not so promising as Ronnie takes every opportunity to shove him away with a cold heart and an angry temper. But his presentence pays off as he keeps chipping away at her tough exterior to discover a wonderful and loving young women that only wants romance and someone to love.
Miley Cyrus is wonderful in this film. It is good to see such a talented artist flourish in such a different role that she has played in the past. She is very believable and will be a touch contender when the movies awards roll by. Be sure to watch The Last Song today.
